It was opening night for the Div. II Aiken Tigers. They were hosted by East Aiken at Hagood Stadium on the campus of Aiken HS. The visitors were down 6 – 0 late in the 4th quarter with 5:27 left. On 4th and goal, the Tigers fell short of the end zone. However, on the very next play the Tigers recorded a safety to cut the deficit to 6 – 2. #33 Johnson returned the free kick into East Aiken territory. After a couple of short runs #2 Kelly took the handoff on an end around all the way into the end zone. The Tigers went up 10 – 6 after #4 Myers converted the extra point kick with 2:44 left in the game. East Aiken didn’t give up and on the first play from scrimmage #22 zig zagged up the field for the go ahead touchdown. The Tigers defense stiffened and didn’t allow the extra point try. Down 12 – 10 #2 Kelly returned the kickoff deep into East Aiken territory. The Tigers offensive line then took control and broke open a hole for #3 Scott to dive into the end zone for the final score of the game with only seconds left.
